It's been a busy time in the ticketing business since I last posted about it.... Ticketmaster has bought a secondary ticketing company (a ticket broker). This gives them more access, systems and a larger footprint in the broker/secondary ticketing market. They are already putting it to use by linking to them via their website for events that are sold out... (more)

So I am reading the usual sources today and I come across this article at News.com. It's about a group in the U.K. that wants to share in concert ticket re-sale revenue. Basically, they want a cut from the broker/secondary/scalper market.... Good luck :-)! This is a market, while despised and not giving back to the artist/group/promoter, they really aren't... (more)

Ticketmaster has had a couple of good weeks. First they win a fight against RMG for using a "bot" to purchase tickets from their website (News.com (blog), NYTimes, Wall Street Journal), then one of their clients, the New England Patriots, wins a court battle against StubHub. An announcement was made today about a deal between StubHub and Major League Baseball (MLB) for the resale of season tickets in the secondary market. News.com, Forbes.com: Ticketmaster, an operating business of IAC InterActiveCorp, said it acquired a majority stake in Emma Entertainment Holdings HK, a provider of ticketing and event promotions services, to expand operations in China. Reuters, News.com: Ticketmaster is suing eBay Inc. in Los Angeles, accusing the Internet auction company's subsidiary StubHub of fraudulently obtaining premium tickets to sell online. LA Times: Simple, 'one size fits all' ticket pricing has become a thing of the past as teams use the Internet and other avenues with an eye on increasing revenue. The Dodgers now sell 24 categories of seats. Interesting article but doesn't say anything new... :-)! Sure, baseball is slicing and dicing the stadiums into even finer pieces, but baseball... (more)

News.com: Can the Net make ticket scalping legit? The above article at News.com talks about the internet legitimizing the ticket brokering business. We could have a long discussion about this, and while it has brought brokering out of the shadows, it's not legit. News.com: Here's one problem the 1959 Chicago White Sox never faced--some fans who were lucky enough to buy seats to this year's World Series were disappointed to learn they would receive electronic tickets. News.com: America Online has set up an online marketplace for the resale of tickets to sporting events, concerts and other shows, the company said Tuesday. News.com: I used to work for these guys... I was actually employee number 7. I don't for the life of me understand why MLB would pay such a premium. They haven't released "numbers" since something like '02, and even what they have released is being re-stated. Oh well, I guess MLB sees something there....... (more)
